A laboratory device known as a Parr reactor is being used in research aimed at developing biofuels. The equipment allows researchers to conduct chemical reactions under controlled temperature and pressure conditions.
In practice, the equipment works like a laboratory pressure cooker, but includes systems that precisely control factors such as temperature, pressure, reaction time and agitation.
In biofuel research, the reactor can be used in hydrotreating processes, which employ hydrogen to modify certain substances found in renewable raw materials. The goal is to obtain fuels with suitable characteristics for use, including renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel, known as SAF.
